Chilli Pepper's 15th Annual Chili Cook Off at Stripers Bar & Grille

Chilli Peppers/Stripers 15th Annual Chili Cook Off winner Mike Dawson (center) is congratulated by his wife Dannon Dawson and chili cook off judge, Terry Ward, for his award winning “Venision Trail Chili” that was entered in this year’s February 22nd cook-off competition, held at Stripers Bar & Grille, Manteo. Dawson won for the home kitchen category and was last year’s winner for both meat and home kitchen.

Manteo, ( February 23) Mom’s, dads and lots of local kids enjoyed  Chilli Peppers 15th Annual Chili Cook Off this past weekend at Stripers Bar & Grille, Manteo. An estimated crowd of 300 had the opportunity to sample 19 chili’s and win over 100 donated gift certificates and prizes.

Trophy prizes were awarded in four categories to include, meat, other meat, vegetarian and home kitchen.

            Winners of this year’s 15th annual Chilli Peppers Chili Cook Off were:

Meat

First Place – Meat, Truffled Beef Tenderloin, Portabella Mushroom and White Bean Chili- Kenny McLean - Awful Arthur’s

2nd Place – Meat, Bottom Round Steak Chili- Robert Conery - Logan Reyes Keywest Bar & Grille

Other Meat

First Place -Other Meat, Venison Trail Chili, Mike Dawson, Home Kitchen Contestant

2nd Place Other Meat-Venison Chili, John Powers, Home Kitchen Contestant

Vegetarian

First Place – Portabella Mushroom and White Bean Chili, Kenny McLean - Awful Arthur’s

Home Kitchen

First Place – Trixie, White Bean and Chicken Chili, Ray Turner, Water Country, 94.5 Radio

2nd Place- Sirloin and Three Bean Chili, Jody Long, KDH Fire Department

            Several local businesses donated product and services to the annual charity cook-off to include gift certificates from Chilli Peppers, Stripers Bar & Grille, Thacker & Pratt Accounting and Bookkeeping, Lori Douglas Photography, Barr-ee Station, Barefoot Massage, Lodis Day Spa, Budweiser,  Beach 104 and Water Country 94.5.  Sound and DJ services were donated by Soundwavz Entertainment.

            A portion of proceeds will benefit Manteo and First Flight High school scholarship programs. Chilli Peppers and Stripers are open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week and offers brunch on Sunday starting at 10:00 am.
